Education and Workforce Development

All ABC-UTC partners have well-established education and workforce development programs that will be further strengthened through the ABC-UTC. FIU, ISU, and UNR each offer graduate degrees leading to M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in all traditional fields of civil engineering, including transportation engineering, structures engineering, and construction engineering.

Work is developing in the following areas and additional detail will be provided soon.

  • Industry Mentoring and Internship
  • Undergraduate Research
  • Course Content Modules
  • K-12 Resources

Quarterly Research Seminar

The ABC-UTC sponsors web-based quarterly Research Seminars in which the project’s principal investigator(s) and graduate student(s) present their work on ABC-UTC funded research projects. Each seminar provides an overview of the ABC-UTC research project and the tasks covered in the project including the student’s work on those tasks, with a strong emphasis on the ABC product(s) coming out of the research project for implementation. The seminars are one hour in length and consist of a 40-minute presentation followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer session.

Research Seminar Archives

The quarterly seminars were initiated in January 2016 as Graduate Student Seminars, as part of the ABC-UTC’s workforce development focus area. In 2017 the seminars were restructured and renamed Research Seminars, each with focus on one ABC-UTC research project. Access to the full series of seminars is available in the Research Seminar Archives.
