Precast concrete segmental bridges, first built in the late 1940s in Europe and in the early 1970s in the U.S., are a long-standing ABC technology that provides solutions for cost-effective, quickly constructed, and aesthetically pleasing designs for both short span and long span applications. This presentation discussed the advantages of precast segmental superstructure and substructure construction as it pertains to span-by-span, balanced cantilever, and other methods. A brief introduction to the new PTI/ASBI Specification for Grouted Post-Tensioned Structures also was included.
