Description: PennDOT is looking at use of the latest bridge technologies to meet the challenges of maintaining its 25,000 bridges. One of those technologies is accelerated bridge construction. This presentation highlights the replacement of the State Route 288 Main St Bridge in Wampum, Pennsylvania. The project replaced a 60-ft-long concrete arch with a 78-ft-long steel I-beam and concrete deck bridge that has ultra-high performance concrete joints and integral abutments. The project used prefabricated elements consisting of decked steel beam modules with barriers and precast abutment caps and wingwalls. The bridge was re-opened to traffic in August 2014, in less than 7 days!
