ABC techniques can offer significant advantages in long span / complex bridge design from the perspectives of both cost and schedule. The use of prefabricated components, repetitive fabrication techniques, and large scale float-in / heavy lift erection methods have been successfully used on recent long span / complex bridge replacement projects to achieve significant reductions in schedule and are cost-competitive with conventional design/construction methods. This presentation discussed ABC aspects of the Mary Avenue Pedestrian (Cable Stayed) Bridge, the Lake Champlain Bridge (Network Arch) and the Portsmouth Memorial Bridge (Movable - Vertical Lift) from the perspective of ABC concepts and their implementation, together with lessons learned and future directions for ABC.
