Description:  This is the third of three presentations hosted by the ABC-UTC in 2018 in collaboration with SHRP2, an AASHTO / FHWA / TRB partnership. This presentation highlights a contractor's perspective on an ABC Accelerated Innovation Deployment (AID) Demonstration project. The Illinois (IL) 115 Gar Creek Bridge in District 3, Kankakee County, Illinois, was replaced using the lateral slide (slide-in bridge construction) method. The existing single-span precast box beam bridge, built in 1976, was replaced with an 82-ft-long, 36-ft-wide, single-span rolled steel beam with composite deck superstructure supported on steel H-piles with precast concrete caps in the semi-integral abutments. The new bridge superstructure was constructed next to the existing bridge and then rolled into place during a 72-hour roadway closure window. The construction contractors provide their perspective on the ABC used in this project. Design and construction details and lessons learned will be discussed.
