Description: The effective use of cranes for erection of prefabricated bridge elements and other aspects of accelerated bridge construction projects is critical to project success. Crane availability, capacity and positioning in consideration of site constraints must be evaluated early in the planning process. Crane set-up time can impact limited closures. This presentation will discuss these issues and explain what a specialty engineer needs to know and provide to the contractor/owner. The advantages and disadvantages of crawler cranes and truck cranes will be discussed. The presentation will address custom lifting equipment in addition to cranes and cover the basics of lift planning and heavy lift rigging.
