Description: The technical presentations describe various full-depth precast deck panel options, with and without post-tensioning, that are available to designers to accelerate bridge deck placement and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each option. Topics includes a) mechanisms for attaching the deck to the girder using shear studs or other mechanical devices; b) options for attaching adjacent precast panels, longitudinally and/or transversely; c) and grouting methods to fill cavities between the precast deck and the top girder surfaces. Dr. Badie’s presentation focuses on connection details commonly employed in the U.S. highway infrastructure. Dr. Graybeal follows with a brief overview of ultra-high-performance concrete connection details, a state-of-the-art solution beginning to be deployed by a handful of states.
