Description: Under the Transportation Research Board’s National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Project 12-98, two guidelines were developed. The first guideline covers tolerances for PBES. This presentation will focus on element tolerances, erection tolerances, and layout tolerances. Included will be specifying joint widths, which are used to account for and manage all tolerances during construction. The methods used for the development of tolerances will be presented. Examples of specifying tolerances will also be presented.
