Description: The Folded Steel Plate Girder Bridge System (FSPGBS) is an economical steel bridge solution for short span bridges. To date several states (Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, Nebraska, and Pennsylvania) have used the system, and several other projects are under various stages of design and construction. The FSPGBS is a proprietary bridge system and provides several advantages: it eliminates the need for cross frames, is easy to inspect, and is suited well for ABC applications. Previously the maximum length of the FSPGBS was limited to 60 ft, reflecting the maximum length of press brake available nationally. This research project developed solutions to extend the maximum length of the FSPGBS to about 100 ft. Non-linear finite element analysis and experimental work, using full-scale test specimens, verified the proposed design details, with inclusion of camber. This presentation provides information that bridge owners can use to utilize FSPGBS for simple-span bridges, using the ABC philosophy with lengths approaching 100 ft.
