In this quarterly Research Seminar, M. “Saiid” Saiidi, Ph.D., P.E., Principal Investigator; and Elmira Shoushtari, Ph.D. student, present work under the ABC-UTC research project entitled Shake Table Studies of a Bridge System with ABC Connections conducted at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Q&A Session - pdf (to be posted soon!)

Description: Results of a recent ABC-UTC funded shake table test of a two-span steel girder ABC bridge system at the University of Nevada, Reno will be presented. ABC connections incorporated in the bridge model were: (1) rebar hinge pocket connection, (2) grouted duct connection, (3) seismic SDCL connection, (4) panel-to-panel UHPC deck joints, (5) grout-filled deck-to-girder pocket connection, and (6) UHPC deck joint over the pier. The main objective of the project is to investigate the seismic performance of six ABC connections when integrated into a bridge system with steel superstructure under combined gravity and bidirectional simulated seismic excitations. A summary of the design, pre-test analysis, construction/testing, global results, and observed damage will be discussed during the presentation.
