Description:
This presentation will introduce practical tools and modern guidance to help designers and contractors streamline steel highway bridge projects, blending proven engineering practices with constructability-focused solutions. Dr. Francesco Russo will highlight how to efficiently lay out and size steel bridge systems using clear rules of thumb for span arrangement, girder spacing, overhangs, flange proportions, and stability bracing in accordance with the AASHTO LRFD 10th Edition. He will cover key updates for wind and stability considerations during deck placement to ensure safe, buildable designs. Vin Bartucca will discuss how contractors can apply the new library of nearly 300 standard plan sets for steel I-girder bridges—covering spans from 80 ft to 300 ft and girder spacings from 8 ft to 14 ft—to simplify estimating, fabrication, and erection planning. Resources and design examples will be provided.
