Featured Presentation:  Advancing Caltrans Bridge and Structures Project Delivery with BIM4I (35 minutes)

Description:
This presentation provides a comprehensive look at Caltrans’ ongoing transition toward digital project delivery with BIM for Infrastructure (BIM4I). It begins with an overview of state, national, and international efforts including CA Assembly Bill 1037, prompting the current BIM4I adoption and the DES Roadmap. Progress to date and key organizational priorities will be highlighted. The session then introduces the overarching BIM4I strategy, including the Caltrans BIM4I Program, Senate Bill-1 (SB1) efficiency findings, information requirements based on ISO 19650 Frameworks, and ongoing research supported by transportation pooled funds and grants. Attendees will learn about emerging digital delivery processes through three active pilot projects demonstrating model-based workflows and the integration of roadway, structures, and other disciplines. The presentation also explores the data and technology advancements that Caltrans is leveraging such as Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) and openBIM® workflows.  Education, industry outreach, and training efforts including partnerships with universities and professional associations will be discussed. Finally, the talk looks toward the future, emphasizing the Caltrans-Academia-Industry collaboration efforts, and the need to develop robust guidance and training materials that underpin successful digital delivery across the project lifecycle.
