Featured Presentation: Galvanic Concrete Encasements for Accelerated Repair and Service Life Extension (35 minutes)
Description:
Over time, concrete elements exposed to seawater or de-icing salts become contaminated with chlorides and the reinforcing steel can corrode. This leads to concrete deterioration and spalling. The galvanic concrete encasement method was developed to structurally repair and extend the service life in a single operation. Using the principles and a project example outlined in SHRP2 R 19A: “Bridges for Service Life Beyond 100 Years” this technique will be explained and the performance of the system will be demonstrated. This method has been utilized on numerous bridges in the US, Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia and has been documented in FHWA, SHRP2 and AASHTO reports. The webinar will explain the technique and use a series of project case studies to illustrate where it has been used and present benefits and long-term performance data.Presenters:
