On February 22, 2023, the US DOT designated FIU as the lead university to bring the latest technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence , 3D printing, advanced decision making, advanced materials and innovative methodologies to bridge engineering; to ultimately make the U.S. bridge industry number one in the world. FIU is among the very few universities in the US, to be funded, in an extremely competitive basis, three times in a row – 2013 through 2016, 2016 through 2023 and now 2023 through 2029.
