Description: The Utah Department of Transportation replaced several bridges as part of the I-80 & I-215 Renewed design-build project on the East side of Salt Lake City that began construction in 2021 and is finishing up this year. The project used lateral slides to replace two bridges, a temporary bridge to facilitate phased replacement of two other bridges, and also includes a bridge widening. This presentation focuses on interesting aspects of one of the bridge slide replacements: 1300 East over I-80. The new 173-foot-long and 125-foot-wide single-span bridge replaced a four-span structure originally constructed in the 1960s. A weekend closure provided time for the slide to take place. This presentation gives an overview of the planning, design, and construction techniques developed from several previous slides to carry out the installation of this large structure within a limited time-frame.
