Description: As part of its SR167 Puyallup River Bridge replacement, WSDOT moved an existing 350-ft-long historic truss bridge using the lateral slide technology. The move was successfully completed during a weekend closure in July 2014, with the existing bridge now serving as the detour bridge during construction of the new Puyallup River Bridge through summer 2015. The incremental lateral sliding of the truss bridge saved WSDOT the worry of road closure or long detour. This presentation will describe the technical details, challenges, and lessons learned from the design-build lateral slide.
